Chairman of the GSAT board of directors, Douglas W. Murphy, states, “Up to this point, the Headwaters Trails project is the result of many collaborative partnerships. We are honored to continue this tradition and to work with the New York – New Jersey Trail Conference, who has a long history of organizing volunteer service projects that keep trails open, safe, and enjoyable for the public.”

Through both classroom and field study, students will learn assessment of trail conditions, clearing, blazing, proper use of tools and how to report any trail problems they may come across on their segment of trail. Students will spend the morning in a classroom environment and then head out into the woods for hands-on instruction.

Be prepared to spend the afternoon on Headwaters Trails as part of the field training. Students will return to the classroom to wrap up the workshop, enjoy refreshments and evaluate their experience. Wear your hiking boots; pack plenty of water; bring work gloves; and bring a bag lunch.
